“Monitoring animal diseases and public health: the value of visualisation tools and surveillance data on poultry and swine farms“ – is the title of the sixth edition of the GBADs and DECIDE seminar series hosted by Cecilia Baumberger (University of Buenos Aires) and Maria Costa (SRUC), which took place On Thursday, October 10, 2024. Watch the recording below:
Cecilia Baumberger, a veterinarian from University of Buenos Aires kicked off the seminar with her presentation on “Exposure practices to animal-origin Influenza A Virus at the animal-human interface in poultry and swine backyard farms“. Cecilia recently has a Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and a recent PhD from the University of Chile. She has worked in teaching (mainly in Veterinary Epidemiology) and in research. Her area of research is based on the study of factors associated with the risk of human exposure to avian and swine influenza virus in backyard production systems.
Next, Dr. Maria Costa of Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) shared her insights with “A new data visualization tool for continued monitoring and surveillance of pig abattoir data” presentation. Maria Costa is a veterinarian and lecturer in veterinary epidemiology at SRUC, based in Inverness. She holds a PhD, which she completed through a collaborative program between Teagasc (Ireland) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Her research focuses on pig health, welfare, and veterinary public health. Maria combines data analysis with her veterinary background to provide insights that support farmers and national authorities, while also actively engaging in teaching and knowledge exchange.
We extend our gratitude to Cecilia and Maria for their excellent presentations and contributions to the consortium.
